Astonished By His Visage

Easter Sunday 3/31/13

Astonied with His Visage

Isaiah 52:13-15
Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

Isaiah 53:1-4
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Let’s Pray:
Gracious Heavenly Father, you have poured out your love by giving us your son Christ Jesus as the FINAL SACRIFICE for our sins. We give you ALL the PRAISE, HONOR and GLORY for that. And through your Sons sacrifice we are not left EMPTY but with POWER Of ETERNAL LIFE WITH YOU through His RESURECTION! And this ETERNAL LIFE IS AVAIBLE TO THOSE who respond to

This morning I pray that you open up the Heart of the one that doesn’t know you as their personal SAVIOR and that TODAY is the DAY of SALVATION, For whosover shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved…(Romans 10:13)
In Jesus name, AMEN

What do:
Pastel Colors
and Bunnies
Have in common? Vernal Equinox.

No, in all honesty the items I rattled off are more of an advertisement to sell product, or to think of things that are new by the pagan worship of fertility, but we have gathered here this morning to consider the time when Jesus was crucified, buried and AROSE from the grave. Moreover to learn what “ASTONIED” and “Visage” mean right…

Astonied: to briefly loss the ability to do anything, DAZED

Dazed, Stupefied, Astonished by what just happened…

It’s a humbling moment when you think of THE ALMIGHTY GOD COMING TO THIS EARTH and become a mere mortal. A man that would be despised, rejected, burden with grief’s, stricken (overwhelmed with whatever your mind can think of), smitten and afflicted.

One becomes astonied, astonished and left in a DAZE, thinking that He did all this because He loves me…

Isaiah wrote the prophecy of a Messiah to come about 700 BC.

He did it with such detail that it’s hard to imagine that someone is unable to see Jesus being described. A foretelling of the EPIC events that surround Jesus and his Passion for the Cross, one should be able to see the visage of Jesus!

Visage: The Face, countenance or appearance of a person.

I don’t know about you but when I read Isaiah 53 entirely I see Jesus…

Isaiah 53:1 asks each of you this morning:

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

Do you believe? If you do I ask that you SHOUT AMEN THIS MORNING WITH ME!

Isaiah 53:5-12
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

God desired a sacrifice to atone the sins of man that I understand but what is this:

“Stripes That we are HEALED”

You see it is one thing to kill a lamb as atonement for our sin but sin leaves a mark on us like a whip laying into the back of someone and as Jesus took each lash he was taking it on behalf of each of us. Jesus is the sacrificial lamb that bore our sins and much more took our punishment along with him!

Our ALMIGHTY GOD did all this and according to His word we appear as if we have all like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own : (

I see our Almighty Lord able to do anything since He is God in flesh but was an obedient servant of God in that he did not open his mouth. And with one word Jesus could have changed the matter but NO he steadied the course in order to fulfill the scriptures as God had planned it.

Isaiah 53 was just a glimpse of what actually happened. Isaiah’s prophecy of our Lord will never be duplicated, never imitated since the Old Testament state over HOW MANY PROPHESIES DID JESUS FULFILL? ANYONE:

Over 400 prophecies that were told in the OLD TESTAMENT.

Turn with me to: Luke 24:44-53
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

As we can cleary see that Christ Jesus fulfilled all the scriptures for (1) ONE PURPOSE, and that is for His Gospel to be preached to ALL NATIONS! Beginning at Jerusalem… the writer, Luke, wanted it to be clear that the Gospel started at Jerusalem but was intended for the world and Luke’s Jerusalem was the GREEK speaking world…

According to scripture the apostles of Jesus became diligent for Jesus, once they witnessed Jesus return in FLESH. Luke’s account of Jesus standing in the midst of His disciples speak of encouragement. And we learn that they went forth, and preached every where far and near. Though the doctrine they preached, was spiritual and heavenly, and directly contrary to the spirit and genius of the world, though it met with abundance of opposition, and was utterly destitute of all secular supports and advantages, yet the preachers of it were neither afraid nor ashamed; they were so industrious in spreading the gospel, that within a few years the sound of it went forth into the ends of the earth, Ro10:18

The astonishing FACT that God’s plan for Jesus: Death + Burial + and RESERECTION for our sins remain the same. So that the spiritually lost might PAUSE in their busy life to see a VISAGE of a SAVIOR of there SOUL and to SEE a new life by just the asking!

It may not hit them right away but if they do accept Him as their personal Savior then they will see His face!
